About Me

Ilona johnson is a mixed media fine artist based at her studio in West Suffolk. Initially trained at Hornsey & then Maidestone College of Art in  …. she was accepted into the Royal College to study environmental media. She uses a variety of media including printmaking, painting, drawing & collage using found objects. Much of her recent work focuses on place & landscape, in particular the way light & shape inform its character. She is also interested in the effect humans have on place, the detritus they leave in it & the human ability to find meaning in the abject. Throughout her career she has always been interested in the different ways she can represent form through various technical disciplines, with her subjects ranging from landscapes to still lives & portraits. 

Notable galleries that have shown her work include: The Royal Academy (London), The Mall Gallery (London), Walthamstow Museum (London), Gainsborough’s House (Suffolk) & The Minories (Colchester, Essex). She has also received prizes from The Reed Gallery (London) & from Walthamstow Museum (London). Ilona has also worked as an Art Psychotherapist for 30 years & has both an MA in Art Psychotherapy (St Albans) & Visual Theory (UEL).
